We’ve been big Plumtree fans for a long time now, seems like a thousand years, from our teenage band “Jolly Bean” opening for them and Thrush Hermit in 1996 to our recent show with Carla and Lynette’s new band “Sister” last April. I fondly remember that 1996 show, they were such lovely people and really made an impression on our young minds. Coinciding with the highly anticipated “Scott Pilgrim vs the World”, the movie based on the graphic novel series who’s lead character is named after the Plumtree song, comes I‘ve Liked You For A Thousand Years – A Tribute to Plumtree courtesy of Gooseberry Records. Look for our cover of “Racing Gloves” (stream below) in the coming weeks when it comes out on Zunior.com (incidentally founded by ex-Inbreds drummer Dave Ullrich).

Our smiley faces are in a new Vitamin Water campaign alongside some other notable Montreal creative people. Apparently, they will appear in metro lightboxes and on top of taxi cabs all over Montreal. For those of you who don’t read french, the headline roughly translates to “Proud endorsement of ‘Bedroom Madness’ “. Paired with that particular Vitamin Water flavor “XXX”, you get what the implication is. Yup, people all over the city will imagine us getting hot and heavy induced by the refreshing drink.
I made a playlist of my favorite tracks of the moment for mysecretplaylist.com. Includes songs by the Morning Benders, Telepathe, Phantogram and more. Click here.
In addition to appreciating the beautiful architecture and country sides of Spain, we also did a of shopping. One of the fashion discoveries we made in Barcelona were Victoria shoes. They are comparable to Keds here, but with a certain European charm. They are simple canvas everyday shoes and are supposedly pretty standard styles worn by children years ago. They have since made a fashionable comeback, much like the Chuck Taylors we love so well. Anyway, Heidi and I have been enjoying them immensely. Check us out sporting them.
We’re back from our small tour of Spain and had an amazing time. Met the sweetest people and played some great shows. Check out our flickr stream for some photos. A big thank you to the people at GrocDog for all the help.
Our little-song-that-could “H-H-Highschool” is featured in clothing chain Le Garage’s new spring 2010 campaign. This is exciting because we love fashion and we’re flattered that the wonderful folks over there deemed us worthy. Take a look on the company website! Clicky Clicky.
It’s been a long while since the last update. Here at team Hexes & Ohs, we like to make our updates count. We’re happy to announce the US release of our latest album “Bedroom Madness”! The critically acclaimed album is now available at major American retailers as well as iTunes. If your local record store doesn’t have it, make them order it! We even dropped some serious bucks to publicize on Pitchfork.com.
The other big news is that we’re heading for 3 dates in Spain. This will be our maiden voyage to the other side of the ocean so we’re totally psyched. Here are our upcoming dates:
February 12th: @ le Divan Orange, Montreal, QC. with vitaminsforyou
March 11th: @ Sala Wurlitzer Ballroom, Madrid, Spain
March 12th: @ 12 Y Medio, Murcia, Spain
March 13th: @ Razzmatazz (Popbar), Barcelona, Spain
SHARE (remixes) is a compilation of eight remixed tracks, available exclusively through new Montreal web label Lazy at Work.
This EP is a first for the band as it’s a remix collection featuring collaborations between us and seven of our admired fellow Canadians friends. Unlike typical remix albums, SHARE (remixes) is a two way street. The EP contains remixed tracks by Montag, Vitaminsforyou, DT666 (aka Patrick Pentland), and OPOPO, plus remixes by Hexes of songs from Sloan, The Bicycles and Camaromance. The result is a sort of dialogue between the artists. It’s colorful and diverse, but unified by the common ingredient of having Hexes presence on each track.
The remix EP is now available on iTunes:
Or you can stream the whole thing free, and/or pay what you can to download on our bandcamp page:
